Motivation:

This proposal is part of a larger effort to standardize governance and make processes clearer in anticipation of v2.

Risks:

As always, process upgrades can lead to friction and confusion. The goal of this proposal is to make a template that can adapt as the needs of the community change over time, reducing the need for future changes.

This change will allow for far more flexibility in proposals, meaning proposals could omit important risks or relevant sections. It will be up to the Juicebox community to research and verify the consequences proposals may have.

Specification:

Remove all current proposal templates. Introduce the format described in Proposal Template.md.

Differences between Proposal Template and Proposal Template.md:

  • Important metadata is now included in the proposal body
  • Summary has been renamed to Thesis

Differences between Untitled and Guide.md:

  • New guide is much more concise
  • Sections can be deleted/added as needed

Rationale:

Governance proposals can vary widely, and hyper-specific prompts often lead to a mismatch between information that voters should know about and information that ends up in a proposal. This specification would standardize prompts while also allowing for greater flexibility.

The introduction of metadata inside proposal bodies solves a few problems—proposal authors often run into issues with the Notion platform, making this format easier to work with. This also makes sure that relevant information stays within the markdown file, making it easier to mirror on IPFS and eventually migrate to another platform if necessary. This will also make governance facilitation smoother (no need for manual entry when moving proposals to snapshot).

This proposal will also indirectly remove “sponsors”. The sponsor section has led to misunderstandings, disagreements, and a good deal of confusion. People looking to endorse proposals can always do so in Discord discussion threads.

Timeline:

This proposal should go into effect as soon as possible once passed on Snapshot.
