Title: Peel recurring payout renewal
Author: aeolian
Date: 2022-04-23

Thesis:

Renew and increase Peel’s recurring payout.

Abstract:

Renew Peel’s recurring payout to US$46,000 per funding cycle. Peel is the team that builds and maintains juicebox.money.

Motivation:

Peel currently has the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain any and all frontend-related work on juicebox.money, rinkeby.juicebox.money, and all related Juicebox interfaces.
  • Design & implement a frontend experience based on changes to the JB protocol (such as V2).
  • Research & deliver customer insights.
  • Manage juicebox.money domain.
  • Building and maintaining the Juicebox Subgraph on TheGraph.

Since the inception of Peel in FC#15 we have been delivering on this promise. Our big project thus far has been adding support for the Juicebox V2 protocol on the frontend and in the Subgraph, which so far has been a success (we’re live on Rinkeby).

As the builders of the juicebox.money web app, any set of features that will become part of this app is our responsibility. To that end, we are requesting a payout increase to increase our bandwidth and accelerate the development of important projects relevant to all JBX holders:

  1. veBanny and staking. If veBanny is to become part of the core juicebox.money app, then Peel will be responsible for its development (or at least stewarding its development).
  2. Funding via NFTs. We are investigating the feasibility of letting projects reward contributors with NFTs.
  3. Multi-token funding. We will soon be investigating the ability for projects to accept select ERC-20 tokens (in addition to ETH) as payments.

This is also not to mention the backlog of features to improve the existing app and functionality (currently 88 issues: https://github.com/jbx-protocol/juice-interface/issues)

Risks:

  • Peel doesn’t use the funds to help grow Juicebox (by not paying new contributors, etc.)
  • Peel doesn’t deliver on projects

Specification:

Increase Peel’s current recurring payout to US$46,000 per funding cycle.

Rationale:

We are requesting an increase of US$16,000 per funding cycle. We are looking to onboard/”hire” 2-3 recurring contributors. The payouts for these contributors will vary, but we are budgeting for an additional US$8,000 per week (US$2,000 - US$3,000 per contributor per week) to pay new contributors.

Our current team (3 developers) is at capacity with our current workload.

We have actively been “recruiting” folks in the last funding cycle, and already have a 2-3 new contributors poking around the codebase and helping on small features. We have ratified a “hiring” process here: https://juicebox.notion.site/Become-a-paid-contributor-0d5a3f77fdb34da1bde73e5a824b2f2d

Timeline:

This should take effect starting in FC#21.
