Thesis
JuiceboxDAO has a unique role of providing projects of all kinds with the opportunity to run their treasury operations smoothly, which definitely requires a focused and engaged approach. Outreach as a key requirement to grow Web3 together is another significant milestone for all DAOs which must be handled professionally. This proposal will allow JuiceboxDAO to outsource its translation tasks of specific documentation on its website, and give it the space and time to buidl its own success by relying on professional language services to be provided by DAOlators for the successful performance of JB’s secondary tasks which are as much needed as they are hard for the DAO to deal with on its own.
Motivation
As a key solution provider for projects looking to run programmable and community funded treasuries from startup to scale openly on Ethereum, JuiceboxDAO holds a very strong position in the ecosystem which inevitably classifies its outreach efforts as a must-have yet time-consuming target for the DAO members. Juicebox is one of the few platforms on the ecosystem whose website is already live in 7 languages so as to eliminate the language barrier. Despite the proven success, increased number of target languages as well as the improvement in DAO’s primary operations made these translation efforts hard to deal with over time, giving rise to the need for a specialized proven language service provider to step in and take such burden away from the shoulders of DAO members so as to let them concentrate on their areas of expertise.
Based on the idea of creating the perfect go-to-solution for crypto platforms and web-3 projects at-large to reach their outreach targets, DAOlators was founded mainly by Translator’s Guild members of BanklessDAO. During their meticulous work on translating their own content for a few months, it became obvious that web3 translations are not easy for folks who are not crypto-native, with each project having its specific terminology adding to the complexity of translation works. And even though many people are interested in contributing to the crypto space, and take translation jobs as “an easy path” to contributor roles, projects undertaken by such enthusiasts with good intentions always produce bad and expensive results for the project owners. To prevent such loss of time and money, the professional team of DAOlators steps in to fill this important gap thanks to their specialization and experience in crypto content. Flawless output, on-time delivery, project-specific workflow creation are the main pillars utilized by DAOlators as a basis to provide exactly what is required by clients.
Onboarded as professional translators contributing to JuiceboxDAO right from the beginning (actually the very facilitators of Juicebox's first translation proposal), a few founding members of DAOlators have had the opportunity to closely witness and observe all translation-related issues experienced by the DAO during a period of nearly 8 months. Along with the disheartening influence of the bear market felt deeply during the last 3 months, DAO was clearly in need of some professional support for the performance of its translation works, which are expected to refresh and strengthen its outreach activities. With this first-hand information on JuiceboxDAO’s specific qualities and areas open for improvement combined with the proven know-how in the translation industry, DAOlators are promising to meet some common and essential needs including 1) an effective translation workflow to streamline the entire process, 2) advice on targeted content selection to avoid unnecessary workload with no solid result, 3) a quality assurance system to enable only quality output to be delivered, 4) a well-defined and coordinated payout mechanism to maximize satisfaction of all parties, and 5) transparent and easy human communication to facilitate the entire process. Plus all the perks of getting DAO’s content translated in the most frictionless way possible!
Specification
DAOlators offers JuiceboxDAO to translate the documentation listed at https://info.juicebox.money/dev/learn as a third party.
DAOlators have their proprietary translation workflow including review and project management phases. Upon agreement on the proposal:
- Translation and review tasks will be undertaken by professional translators working in their native language (some members of the DAOlators are already Juicebox translators)
- Entire project management process will be organized, executed, and supervised by the DAOlators team.
- Cat Tool usage is a standard in all DAOlators projects (Crowdin accounts to be provided by JB).
- Machine translations are not accepted.
- Untranslatable terms such as codes and document/proper names will be deducted from the final count of words. (e.g. JBController.burnTokensOf(...))
Documents listed in https://info.juicebox.money/dev/learn have 6403 words in gross total, i.e. including untranslatables. Total ask for translating 6403 words into 5 languages is $5.282,48. The calculations can be seen in this document.
To be able to pin an exact total price, JB has to decide on the words to be excluded from the translation, as well as the number of target languages. The proposal will be updated according to the final decision by JB.
Responsibilities of Juicebox DAO:
- Selection of target languages for translation
- Sourcing and Review of test translations.
- Preparation of the source files.
- Joining a meeting with DAOlators to review the source files. (1hr)
- Joining update meetings that will be held once a week to answer any questions by translators as well as solve any discrepancies throughout the project
Preparation of source files:
There are words that are not needed to be translated in the documents. While preparing for the translation, these words can be excluded from the document following the below guidelines (these rules apply to elimination of the coding language; any extra demand and question shall be addressed by number 4 below)
-
If the code itself constitutes a whole sentence, list, paragraph, etc. that is written in a programming language ONLY WITH NO TRANSLATABLE variable, it will be eliminated and excluded from the project scope. (SS examples provided below)
-
If the code is used as part of a sentence, text, definition, list, etc. which also includes ANY TRANSLATABLE DATA, then they will be considered as integral components of the source text, and included in all counts.
-
Elimination of code will be preferably completed by the DAO prior to the agreed start date of translation.
-
Any lack of consensus shall be solved in the Source File Review meeting.
Rationale
Outsourcing the translation workflow will help the DAO focus on its main operations instead of troublesome secondary tasks that consume too much time and energy like translations; such tasks will be delivered by professionals in the field following an industry standard workflow to be agreed upon by the JB and DAOlators. Elimination of translation tasks from DAO’s main line of tasks will help smooth the operations of DAO, avoid conflict between contributors, prevent the burden of extra work to be undertaken by various members, and give back the much needed time and attention back to the DAO itself.
The fact that some DAOlators members already have experience in translating Juicebox content will add unique value. No time will be lost for adaptation of the team to the project since preliminary meetings can be held by the DAOlators to introduce Juicebox basics to the new members. There are already available JB terminology lists in the DAOlators archive to facilitate and speed up the flow while minimizing the risk of terminology mistakes. Last but not least, knowing the problems encountered by Juicebox translators during its entire translation journey will prevent the history from being repeated under the guidance of already implemented effective solutions, or will quickly lead translators to seek for new perspectives without losing time and effort on unfunctional ones.
Timeline
After proposal approval;
Test translations (1 Week)
Source File Delivery and Review (1 Week)
Translation (including review as a flexible two-week period to be decided and completed by the translator and reviewer of each language on their own) (3 Weeks)
Finalization and approval process including any valid corrections requested by JB (1 Week)
The overall target of this proposal is to fulfill a specific translation task, which is among the current items on JuiceboxDAO’s to-do-list. However, we believe that the power and trust arising from the mutual satisfaction at the end of this one-time project may and hopefully will provide a readily available framework to be utilized any time in the future. So, the potential long-term benefits combined with a huge amount of time saved for DAO’s primary mission should be noted as a quite unique deliverable a proposal may offer.
