Synopsis

Renew Matthew and Brileigh’s recurring payout for seven (7) cycles to continue producing educational materials, product updates, devrel content, The Juicecast, website copy, and bug testing.

Motivation

As JBDAO continues to invest in frontend and contract development, it should also devote resources to communicating these changes to users and making Juicebox more comprehensible. As long as JB devs continue to dev, there will be a need for materials that explain to the outside world why this all matters and how it might be useful. Matthew and Brileigh are the team best suited to producing this content.

Recent work

🍊 Collaboration with Peel

The frontend team at Peel is shipping new product features and bug fixes weekly and M+B have worked closely over the last three months to announce updates and keep the community better informed about juicebox.money. M+B have also contributed to website copy, helped bug test new features, and worked with TJL on outbound campaigns (e.g. hackathon pitch).

📚 Educational Content

Juicebox can feel complex and hard to understand for new project creators, contributors, and devs. Each of these audiences needs to feel confident in Juicebox in order to create a project, contribute to a project, or develop an extension.

M+B have consistently produced high-quality educational material that helps make Juicebox more comprehensible, breaks down primitives, and gives users confidence that there are trustworthy people behind the protocol.

🎙 The Juicecast

The Juicecast is a cultural anthropology of crypto and DAOs featuring interviews with community members in the Juicebox ecosystem and beyond. Recent episodes have focused on video podcasts to lean further into storytelling and human connection while leveraging guests’ network effect to bring new audiences into the Juicebox ecosystem.

  • ep25 with Xin aka Livid from Planet (YouTube)
  • ep26 with Kai and Emil from CryoDAO (YouTube)
  • ep27 with Tommy and Frisson from Tally (YouTube)
  • ep28 with nnnnicholas (YouTube)

We are responsible for all production tasks including interview prep, scheduling guests, co-hosting, editing, and audio engineering. With nearly 30 episodes recorded so far, The Juicecast has become one of the best-produced podcasts in all of crypto and continues to book compelling guests.

💼 Miscellaneous Work

  • M+B appeared on the Tally podcast to discuss Juicebox (YouTube) which became their video with the most views in the last 3 months
  • M+B will be appearing on a Twitter Space with The Dapp List (13.5k followers) on August 16th
  • Matthew assembles bi-weekly governance recap threads on Twitter (e.g. GC-54 Recap) which help encourage governance participation
  • M+B answer questions from project creators in Discord
  • M+B occasionally host town hall when Filip is away

Metrics

Videos produced by M+B on JBDAO YouTube have earned ~ 1275 views in the last three months, which is over 4x the number of clicks as the docs (276) and over 50% the number of clicks as juicebox.money (1.98k) over the same time period. Newcomers to town hall often mention JBDAO YouTube as one of their first introductions to Juicebox and the metrics support this.

Over the last 90 days, nearly half (14/30) of the top tweets by # of impressions that mentioned @juiceboxETH or linked to juicebox.money were authored by M+B or related to content produced by M+B.

For transparency, all metrics related to our contributions can be found in the spreadsheet here.

Upcoming work

🍊 Working closely with the Peel team to bug test and announce new features, develop in-app educational materials, and produce content that helps users use Juicebox with confidence

📚 Educational content like the use case videos that help build Juicebox mental models as well as evergreen content that breaks down core Juicebox primitives like Cycles and Payouts

💻 Dev-facing content like Solidity Sesh that helps bring new devs into the ecosystem to build on top of Juicebox

🎙️ Hosting and producing The Juicecast as a cultural anthropology of Juicebox and a storytelling vehicle for builders within the ecosystem and beyond

📰 Based on temp check feedback, going forward we will reevaluate lower performing initiatives and put more energy towards new experiments

Expenses

For the last year or so, M+B have incurred the following expenses as contributors to JBDAO:

  • Adobe CC suite (2 seats) = 109.98 USD per month
  • Riverside Pro = 29.00 USD per month
  • Canva Pro (1 seat) = 14.99 USD per month
  • MailerLite Growing Business plan = $10.00 USD per month
  • CapCut Pro = 7.99 USD per month
  • Screen Studio license = 89.00 USD one-time
  • Reincubate Camo = 79.99 USD one-time

Specification

Add $6000 USD recurring payout from Cycle 55 to Cycle 61 (inclusive) to Project 552 (https://juicebox.money/@juicecast) from the V3 treasury.

If JBP-418 is approved, add a $9000 USD recurring payout to Project 552 (https://juicebox.money/@juicecast) from Cycle 55 to Cycle 59 (inclusive) instead.

Rationale

We are proposing to renew our payout to reflect the continued workload and output that we have established over the last several months.

Risks

  • Matthew might lose his streak in the gm channel (currently 507)
  • The Juicecast might be deemed a security by Gary Gensler

Timeline

This proposal should take effect immediately and last seven (7) funding cycles, starting in Cycle 55 and ending in Cycle 61 (inclusive).
