Synopsis

Staff and fund the next iteration of Juicecrowd (JC02).

Motivation

Juicecrowd was an experiment initially launched by Peel during their last proposal. The first Juicecrowd (JC01) program saw great results, generating ~120 ETH across 8 projects and attracting incredibly positive feedback from those who participated. After this, we learned a lot about: a) what to look out for as a 'great' project (identification pillars) b) where to provide educational support (via workshops) c) what the highest impact support areas were (high vs. low ROI areas) d) how to get the most out of a campaign in under 4 weeks (fundraising playbook)

Juicecrowd's vision is to enable more viral and successful fundraises through Juicebox.money, through a cohort-based program that provides education, support, and appropriate tools. In essence, we find promising projects and provide them with a helping hand to successfully fund their project – driving further exposure and fees to the protocol. The key problem/value areas Juicecrowd is addressing:

  • Produce min. 1 viral project per cohort (consistent funding volume)
  • Produce repeatable processes and documentation to increase project success and tend to Juicebox's 0ETH project problem
  • Create and provide a support framework that can be automated and eventually embedded into JBM
  • Work closely with a smaller batch of successful projects, that can provide valuable feedback to improve the JBM product

Juicecrowd is a multi-disciplinary operation, spanning marketing (attracting and promoting projects), education/leadership, communication/customer success, design, and development (tailored tools and features). Thus, we're seeking funds to both staff and execute the operation. Plans for this crowd:

  1. Bring on 6 high-quality projects (allowing up to 10)
  2. Make improvements to the platform and program based on feedback and learnings from the last (retrospective TBD)
  3. Align crowd theme with current/future crypto narrative
  4. Introduce tokens as a funding mechanism
  5. Bring on a (or multiple) major partner/sponsor (e.g. ) for the prizes
  6. Since the last crowd, many people have been hanging out for the next crowd.

With the market picking up and Juicebox's recent exposure, we believe now to be the best time to execute JC02 and double down on successful project raises on Juicebox through a proven and successful framework – before too many 'fresh' projects flood the market, and as the total crypto market cap grows larger. This would ultimately see us build and launch into a prime market. JC02 team of contributors consists of:

  • TJL – Project lead & program content
  • Matthew – Marketing & program content
  • Brileigh – Marketing & program content
  • Strath – Design & community
  • Wraeth – Development & technical support

Each member also plays a ‘community manager’ role throughout the cohort.

JC02 project timeline (Approx.)

Pre-program (4 Mar – 15 Mar) Activities include retrospectives, product updates, and preparations.

Program marketing (18 Mar – 5 Apr) Before launch, activities include marketing for submissions, program content, and schedule creation.

Program launch (8 Apr – TBD ~6-8 weeks) Official launch of the program, with activities including educational workshops, campaign support, marketing, and much more. Length depends on pre-program activities.

Wrap-up (TBD) Closing out the program and campaigns.

Specification

Pay 90ETH to the @juicecrowd project, to fund the full-time staffing costs over the next approx. 10 cycles. Total funding to be paid out based on milestones:

  1. 30ETH upfront (this allows us to review, prepare, and launch)
  2. 30ETH at the midway point
  3. 30ETH on cohort close (to ensure accountability)

Rationale

The above expenses will cover the work produced by the team, in the intensive full-time capacity JC01 required from us. Additionally, 10 cycles are to account for an end-to-end cohort (as opposed to our previous proposal finishing mid-cohort).

Leadership & marketing

Conducive to the success of JC01 were the efforts put in by TJL, Matthew, and Brileigh. Between these three, they managed to discover and find a cohort of great potential as seen in the cohort's fundraising results. These individuals were also responsible for running workshops and providing advice to the projects to maximize their opportunities for success.

Design

Design work is required and the Strath/TJL combo has proven time and time again of high quality and efficient pacing. Work is required to overhaul the design of the site to put a large focus on project tokens for the creators and funders. This will require design changes to the home page, project page, and project settings page (creator only).

Development

Ongoing development is required for JC02. With the takeaways from the previous cohort, the proposed design work above will need to be implemented. Due to the shift of placing project tokens at the forefront of the designs, changes will need to be made to the codebase of the Juicecrowd project. These changes will reflect all of the design changes outlined by Strath & TJL. Any ongoing bugs or issues will also need to be accounted for.

Risks

  • The team does not deliver the intended results in the 10 FC timeline (but will continue to deliver, hence the milestone approach)
  • The team under-delivers and does not meet the proposed expectations
  • A change in the market may cause people to lose interest in crypto projects

Additional clauses

  • Upon successful proposal, a @Juicecrowd project will be created on JBM. Funds are to be sent there.
  • Upon successful proposal, this will supersede and replace M+B’s recurring payout (JBP-476)

Timeline

Immediately.
