Abstract#

The MoonDAO Makerspace is a creative hub designed to inspire and empower individuals through hands-on STEAM education, collaborative workshops, and access to cutting-edge tools. For 2025, the initiative aims to scale operations, enhance accessibility, and foster sustainable innovation by establishing a fully-equipped and community-driven makerspace in Vitalia District. This project will integrate community education, innovation, and entrepreneurial support to cultivate a thriving ecosystem of creators.

Problem#

The current MoonDAO makerspace is constrained but has huge potential. We are limited in scope and capacity due to lack of operating capital, a small barebones selection of equipment, and the lack of qualified personnel with makerspace operational expertise to scale up operations and outreach to the community at large on a daily basis. We received a tiny boost funding for more or less a glorified event, the first pop-up https://vitalia.city/ in 2024. We wanted to provide an high quality experience to participants and prove demand. We did so above and beyond and continued operating after the initial experiment, so now it is time to scale up.

Solution#

Secure funding $50,000 (USDC / 13.6 ETH) for the first quarter of operations within a strategically located dedicated facility in the heart of the Vitalia startup district with an experienced Makerspace manager to show traction while prepping for a new Juicebox style raise in Q2 to showcase MoonDAO's new fundraising technology. We are aiming for transparent and obtainable impact goals that benefit the entire global MoonDAO network. This will secure a space tech focused LATAM base of operations for MoonDAO recruitment and space related startups. Our mission is to expand the reach and impact of the MoonDAO Makerspace by solidifying its operational foundation, increasing its community engagement, all while creating a self-sustaining funding model. This purpose aligns with MoonDAO's mission to foster innovation and collaboration in STEAM fields while addressing logistical and operational challenges observed in 2024.

Risks#

• Funding Challenges: Securing continuous funding for operations and maintenance beyond the Vitalia.City event is critical to avoid operational difficulties.
• Revenue Generation: Dependence on membership fees and workshop revenues will be insufficient to sustain major operations in Duna Tower beyond Q1 without additional sponsors and funding.
• Equipment Maintenance: Regular upkeep of machinery requires skilled personnel and financial resources to prevent downtime.
• Supply Chain Dependencies: Reliance on external suppliers for materials can lead to operational delays if disrupted.
• Participation Levels: Sustaining high community engagement is essential; low participation can undermine objectives.
• Inclusivity Challenges: Ensuring the space is welcoming to all community members requires deliberate effort and inclusive policies.
• Safety Concerns: Operating advanced machinery poses safety risks; implementing comprehensive protocols is necessary.
• Technological Obsolescence: Rapid advancements in technology may render equipment outdated, necessitating regular updates and investments.

Objectives#

Objective #1: Enhance operational capacity to foster startup development (team lead gen) within Vitalia and Prospera ecosystems.#

Key Results:

• Procure and install additional equipment (e.g., 3D printers, CNC machines) to support a 50% increase in user engagement by Q2 2025.
• Conduct at least 12 Vitalia Focused makerspace workshop experiences, with content capture and focusing on areas relevant to all stakeholders.
• Conduct 3 startup development workshops focused on prototyping and MVP creation, attended by at least 20 participants.
• Secure a partnership with at least 1 accelerator to provide mentoring and technical support services for startups utilizing the makerspace.

Objective #2: Achieve revenue generation to ensure Makerspace longevity and scalability.#

Key Results:

• Launch a tiered subscription membership model with at least 40 active members (individuals and organizations) by the end of Q1.
• Monetize the Makerspace 3D printing shop in Artizen generating $3,000 in sold items.
• Partner with 1-3 sponsors or philanthropic organizations to secure $2,000 in donations.

Objective #3: Elevate STEAM education accessibility for Roatán communities.#

Key Results:

• Develop a standardized STEAM event tailored for local schools, involving local schools involving 50 participants in March.
• Train and certify 1 facilitators (from Roatán communities) to lead workshops in 2025.

Objective #4: Expand Benefits of Space Network#

Key Results:

• Develop and deploy a perk or benefit for all citizens directly related to the Makerspace.
• Develop and deploy perks for all teams who join the Space Network.
• Develop and deploy a Makerspace Marketplace offering on the Space Network.
• Interview existing teams and projects (at least 10) in the Space Network to inform the development of an MVP Space DeSci research hub / prototyping facility to further evolve the maker space in q2.
• Recruit 15 Citizens and at least 1-3 teams directly attributable to the MakerSpace efforts into the Space Network. Help the executive team recruiting efforts leveraging Makerspace Content.

Member(s) responsible for OKR and their role:

• Manuel Rocketeer / Director of Makerspace — The project leader and representative for the project within the MoonDAO Senate. The Rocketeer is responsible for:
  1. Strategic Leadership
     • Define and communicate the project's vision, goals, and objectives to all stakeholders.
     • Develop and implement strategies to achieve the project's OKRs, ensuring alignment with MoonDAO's mission and the interests of stakeholders such as Vitalia, Prospera, Ixian, Symbiont Labs, and the Roatán communities.
  2. Governance and Compliance
     • Serve as a member of the MoonDAO Senate, participating in governance activities, including attending weekly Senate meetings and voting on proposals.
     • Ensure the project adheres to MoonDAO's guidelines, policies, and constitutional requirements.
  3. Team Management
     • Recruit, onboard, and manage an additional team member, assigning roles and responsibilities aligned with the project's objectives.
     • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team to foster a productive working environment.
  4. Financial Oversight
     • Create and manage the project's budget, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately to meet objectives.
     • Establish and administer a multisig treasury for the project, overseeing transactions and maintaining financial transparency.
  5. Project Planning and Execution
     • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables, to guide the team towards achieving the OKRs.
     • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or obstacles, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement
     • Act as the primary liaison between the project team and stakeholders, including MoonDAO members, Vitalia, Prospera, Ixian, Symbiont Labs, and the Roatán communities.
     • Provide regular updates to stakeholders, addressing concerns and incorporating feedback to ensure the project's success.
  7. Reporting and Documentation
     • Prepare and present weekly progress reports to the MoonDAO Senate and community, highlighting achievements, challenges, and upcoming plans.
     • Compile a comprehensive final report upon project completion, detailing outcomes, financial expenditures, and lessons learned.
  8. Resource Management
     • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of equipment and materials necessary for the Makerspace's operations.
     • Ensure resources are utilized efficiently and sustainably to support the project's activities.
  9. Community Outreach and Education
     • Coordinate the development and delivery of STEAM education programs for the Roatán communities, aligning with the project's educational objectives.
     • Foster partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to enhance the Makerspace's impact and accessibility.
  10. Sustainability and Growth
      • Develop and implement strategies for revenue generation, such as membership models, accelerators, workshops, and events, to ensure the Makerspace's financial sustainability.
      • Explore opportunities for expansion and scaling of the Makerspace's operations to serve a broader Aerospace audience.
  11. Conflict Resolution
      • Address and mediate any conflicts within the team or with external stakeholders, ensuring a harmonious working environment.
      • Adhere to MoonDAO's dispute resolution processes as outlined in the organization's constitution.
  12. Continuous Improvement
      • Encourage a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, seeking feedback and implementing best practices.
      • Stay informed about developments in the makerspace community and STEAM education to integrate relevant advancements into the project.
  13. Initial Team
      1. Ixian is responsible for finding and establishing other popup jurisdiction opportunities for the creation of additional nodes, which Symbiont may or may not operate, as part of the broader MoonDAO makerspace initiative.
      2. Symbiont will coordinate the local operations at the Vitalia Makerspace, including on-the-ground logistics, project management, and day-to-day operations with the Makerspace manager.
      3. MoonDAO will continue to support the makerspace financially as a philanthropist, as well as playing an active role in promoting the project and its DeSci Spacehub and analogue astronaut initiatives.
