Abstract

This proposal further simplifies the proposal process and implements some small yet impactful updates to increase clarity and accuracy. See the proposed changes here: https://github.com/Official-MoonDao/documentation/pull/92/files

Problem

In the current documentation:

There’s no reference to the new submission or reporting process.
Project leads are noted as responsible for multisig creation, but this is now handled automatically or by the executive branch as necessary. They are also noted as responsible for including a justification table of expenses in the final report, however in practice this is handled by the executive branch in the auditing process.
Suggests that larger teams must use coordinape, but in practice the team’s internal distribution process is at their own discretion.
ETH rewards are calculated at the end of the quarter, making projection of potential returns less accurate.
There’s no standard asset for project salary payments, adding confusion regarding fluctuating exchange rates to the retroactive reward process.
Citizens control project reward distribution, however in practice it’s both citizens and vMOONEY holders that allocate their voting power towards projects.
Makes reference to a script used for calculating reward distribution which has been superseded by Jade’s script.

In the proposed documentation:

References and links are added for the new submission and reporting processes.
Project leads are no longer responsible for multisig creation or including expense justifications in the project’s final report.
We remove detailed information regarding Coordinape and the implication that it’s mandatory for larger teams.
Retroactive rewards will be calculated at the start of the quarter, instead of the end. This makes projection of potential rewards more accurate and can incentivise participation.
ETH is set as the standard unit for any project salary payment, simplifying the retroactive rewards process.
We replace instances of “Citizens” with “Citizens and voting members” in the project reward calculation section.
Replaces the link to the older script with a link to the new scripts for calculating rewards
- Note: The new scripts handle the complete distribution process, and while open and accessible for everyone to verify its results, it does require some technical understanding. We plan to consolidate these scripts and implement a process by which anyone can independently confirm the results without any technical requirements, which will be implemented before the end of Q2, 2025. Once the new process for independent confirmation is ready, we’ll update the links to the reward calculation script to point to a landing page with accessible methods for independent verification of results.

Adoption risk: Contributors may have concerns about being paid salary in ETH. We can mitigate this by including a flex budget to cover potential slippage and then converting the ETH to stables for actual payouts.
